Clash. London Calling Jimmy Jazz. Punk Songs.
Does anyone listen to WXPN? It's a alternative Philly station but it's also played in other markets.
Anyways, they're going to be featuring punk music all month long. Sweet.
I think I'll write a post and list my favorite albums of all time but I'll let you know one of them now. The Clash's London Calling. It came out when I was in 9th grade and I can still listen to every song today and love it. Of course back in the day I had it on vinyl and on cassette tape. Crappy, scratchy, gets eaten by your cassette player cassette tape.
And of course I had my trusty cassette tape carrying case. Remember those things? I just threw mine out a few years ago. It was hard to let go.
So in memorial of my cassette tape case, lets celebrate by listening to The Clash doing Jimmy Jazz live. Crank it up beotch!

I was 9 when that album came out however I do remember my beloved Walkman and making tape 'mixes'...play, record, erase, record, rewind, play, record. I didn't appreciate The Clash till I was older in life. I was consumed by the 80s hair metal bands. I soon changed my ways when I went to college. The Clash is an excellent band...I wish I appreciated them when I was 9...
Jenn - I loved the mix tapes too. As for the Hair Metal, glad you survived it. There are a few songs that bring back some memories but overall, I pretty crappy era for music.

I think there were some pretty excellent bands out there during the 80s however were clouded by the hair, the spandex etc...some of the guitar players were the best at the time. Def Leppard exploded w/their album Pyromania back then. Don't tell me you don't turn up the volume to 'F-f-foolin' :) There are many definitions of hair metal...the glam bands ruined it. People would put Bon Jovi and Queensryche in that category, they simply were not the same as Poison, Slaughter etc; no comparison. Thank GAWD Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails showed me the way.
Bob Jovi sucks. As for Poison, I have the greatest hits on my Ipod. They're nostalgic but they're still pretty much a joke.
As for NIN I have a few songs on my Ipod. What's the best album to get. Let me know and I'll get it and burn it.
Ooh. Now you're talkin. I love me some Clash. I think my favorite song of theirs was "Return To Brixton." I don't think it was on an album, just a single.
Poison is the worst thing that happened to music..they can't play worth shit...however I will admit buying the record only to totally freak out my mother because of the bands love of make-up. Bon Jovi has a special on Showtime..they are still relevant and sell out shows. Not my fave either but I give them kudos since Jon started out with lavender leather pants.
As for NIN, you should start with The Downward Spiral. It's raw, emotional and loud. I also love With Teeth...if you go to nin.com, you can download some of his music for free - that's Mr. Reznor to you :)
Ahhh. Thank God for the mind cleansing Clash.
London Calling is one of my all time favorites.
Nice. Thanks for the heads up on xpn, the husband loves the punk.
Were you a tape junkie too? Always trying to have the best blank tapes for recording (Maxell metal II with Dolby B was reserved for the best albums).
And did you write out the song list on the blank cassette card stock too?
Think I'll go listen to some Sex Pistols and fold my socks...fuck I'm old.
That makes you about 10 years younger than me, you little whipper snapper.
We were out there "punking it up", mildly because our kids were all born in the 80's.
(whipper snapper, hahaha)
Chris - great call. I did do that.
Diane - whipper snapper? I'll take that.
I loved that record, as well. I have a 14 year old son. Being the cool mom I am, I bought him the CD (OK - it was really for me disguised as a gift...you caught me!). What's the kid do? BUYS IT ON VINYL!! He wanted it to be "authentic". I can hardly wait to see what your other favorite CDs are!
Love The Clash!
