Another Concert I Saw - Tom Petty

In my series of posting concerts I've been to, this was my second concert -Tom Petty in 1979 (Cheap Trick was my first). It was on the Damn the Torpedoes Tour and I saw him at the Spectrum in Philly. The opening band was TKO. Here's a video of him singing American Girl in 1978.

  3. He was my first too! He came to Purdue the year I was there, and he rocked the house, baby! I couldn't afford the tickets so I signed on to be an usher so I got to see the show for free. Drove my roommates bug-fucking-nuts singing all his songs into my hairbrush and dancing around the dorm room.

    Ahhhhh. Good times.

  5. Oh my my, oh hell yes, gotta put on that party dress........

Tom's cool....my all time favorite is Elton John. Oh yes he is.

My first concert was KISS, it was at the Spectrum, we were on the floor. That is when they called them dance concerts. I believe it was 1977 or 78.

    Peace

  7. I've seen Cheap Trick. My first ever concert was...please respect me in the morning...Bon Jovi and Skid Row. 7th grade. It was hot. And by "hot," I mean, H.O. double T.

    Yup.

  8. I looked at that picture, and it feels so weird that in a year, none of those three venues will exist anymore.

My first concert was Billy Joel in 1986.

  10. Let me just take a break for a few seconds from the chicken and mushroom dish I'm making -
AR - I was an early concert bloomer because my friend's brother went to concerts all the time and we always went with him.
Vodka - never saw Molly H but saw the Outlaws a few times.
Sista #2 - (the sexiest voice around) - Never saw Kiss
Sass - Bob Jovi sucks and always sucked. Hate to tell you.
WWW - isn't that a great picture though?
Gwen - Julian Lennon? I have a friend that saw him and he said it was the worst mistake. As for the post, hold your horses. Also, have a great time tomorrow. Maybe I'll try to instant message you a bit later in Facebook if you're on and I can figure it out.

  11. I was 13 so I'm not sure I cared.

I'm around - cleaning and "stuff" for tomorrow - but I have the music up pretty loud. I'll keep checking in, though.

  12. Iron Maiden 1983. I was 14. Motorhead was the second act but the opener was Fastway. I smuggled joints in my afro. Don't laugh.

  17. My first (free) concert was Kenny Loggins. It was around the time Caddyshack came out.

My first "real" (paying) concert was...get ready for it...Neil Diamond! I credit him for helping me avoid the whole disco era. Donna who?

  18. Around the same time, if I had the choice, I would have gone to a GnR concert... although you would have to live in Cali at the time. Tom Petty. he did write some good stuff didn't he. I think he got himself some hot young babe too. Or maybe that was John Mellancamp

  19. Saw Cheap Trick a few times but I never got to see The Heartbreakers even though Petty was from nearby Gainesville. You Got Lucky was a classic.

  20. Right now I hate you, I hate you. OK its called envy.
    I frickin LOVE Tom Petty.
You know my love for the classics. On my list of bands to see before I die (I should post that list huh?)
Tom Petty has not been ticked off that list and that makes me so sad.
American girl oh how I love that song

  21. I love Tom Petty's stuff! I wish I would have been to one of his! My first concert was triple bill Journey, ZZ Top and maybe Tommy Tutuone (?) sometime in '81.
