I'm heating up my hot rollers, Zibbs, and getting my BeDazzler out to BeDazzle the shit out of my white pant suit. Please tell me you're wearing a black sequined scarf around your neck...
They made some catchy tunes, but I never understood all the references to their music. I don't know why they've been singled out for so much negative attention, unless it has something to do with those outfits they wear.
Maybe here in Italy we have a different view of some of this stuff. I often find that I'm out of the loop.
I grew up with AbbA songs ! Even had the 4 dolls as a kid ! And every time you hear a song of them, you just start to sing along ! Remember Madonna's song Hung Up a few years ago ? She used a sample of an AbbA song and I found it really good ! In fact, every time we heard it on the radio we start doin' those Disco routines she did in her video LOL ... time goes by, so slowly ...
This requires a lunch break dissertation: 1) Cat dresses – I would say that stylistically, they resemble Picasso’s cubism and blue periods, if you drop a few hits of LSD before picking up the rhinestone rivet device. Hats off to the design team on those dresses. 2) The lead singer’s fake angst expression reminds me of a medical condition that most elderly people routinely fall prey to. I recommend prune juice and orange flavored Metamucil. 3) The guitarist: How could ripping off T Rex’s style go so horribly wrong? Oh - he’s SWEDISH, that’s how. The only cool Swede out there is the Swedish Chef, and he’s a friggin’ muppet. My apologies in advance for dissing Swedes. It’s a great country. Really, it is.
Once again, here is another video that makes me grateful to be alive, having survived this era of cultural depravation. I almost didn’t watch the whole thing, but I would have missed the cat dresses, and how hollow would my existence be without that experience?
Why the belts covering the cats? Two possible reasons: 1) They didn't want the cats to fall off, so they strapped them onto their stomachs like one of those child carrier chest sling things. 2) The cats just recently joined a karate class (good for them!)- but only like last Tuesday or so - hence the white belt status. However, Mr. Miyagi has the utmost confidence that these cats will progress to triple mantis style black belts within the next year.
And Jesus. Look at those shirts!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Abba! I used "Take a Chance on Me" to woo my husband....successfully. So, yeah, I <3 Abba!
ReplyDeleteThe cat dresses weird me out, though.
ReplyDeleteI went to see Mamma Mia on Broadway when a female friend of mine had an extra ticket.
ReplyDeleteAfter it was over, I turned to her and said "That was okay, but I thought it was supposed to be a bunch of ABBA songs?"
The woman sitting in front of me turned around and replied with a chilly voice "They were all ABBA songs!"
The moral of the story: I don't know as many ABBA songs as I may have thought. Like this one. Never heard it before.

WestChesterDead - I've gone back and looked at the cat dresses and have another question. Why did they wear belts to cover part of the cat?
ReplyDeleteIt just seems wrong.
Thanks but I had my share of ABBA in the 70's. And no, have not seen the movie.
