HR Puffnstuff and The Krofft Brother Bastards.

So the other day my son says he was looking forward to the new season of shows he likes.

I was telling how it was a huge deal back in the day when the new shows were coming out. When I was a kid they used to have shows that previewed the shows that were coming up. And for all the hype it was pretty exciting as a kid.

And Saturday morning was a whole thing in itself. Especially those jackass Krofft Brothers. Even as I watched those stupid shows I knew I was hating every moment of it but I couldn't look away. Look at how crappy this opening for HR Puffnstuf was. It was awful!:

So is anyone a Krofft Brothers fan? Like you really enjoyed it? For more craptacular fun, check out the Saturday preview show by clicking here. It's just embarrassing!

  2. I grew up in the Philippines.

All we had were tagalog tele-dramas. And if you think Spanish soaps were bad!

  3. I was more of a "Sigmund and the Sea Monsters" man, myself.

  4. I can proudly say that I never watched HR Puffnstuf...for the simple reason that the commercials made me sick to my stomach.*

(*the same reason I don't watch Tom Cruise movies)

  5. I'm will ing to bet that Sid and Marty Krofft smoked a lot of grass in their parent's basement. Why else would they name the show "Puffnstuff"?

To prove my point: the local head shop in my home town was called "Puff-n-Stuff". They tried to make like it was a tobacco shop, but who smokes tobacco from a 4' water pipe?

Even the "Super Friends" were better than this and that isn't saying much.

  6. I was NOT surprised when it came out years later that the Krofft brothers were strung out on drugs during the writing..and filming of this "childrens" program.

  7. For the record, I've done extensive research and they did NOT do drugs.

  8. ...OK I'm lying. I read it in a single sentence on Wikipedia.

  9. I thought that HR Puffnstuff was the personnel department at a head shop. Silly me.

  10. O.k., you might as well just shoot me now, I saw HR Puffnstuff in the theater. That's right, there was a movie, and I spent money to go and see it. (poking myself in the eyes now)

  11. Hell yeah, I'm a fan. Loved "Land of the Lost", the most. But also liked some of their other shit. And yeah, some was just way out bonkers looney tunes stuff, but hey, my brain was on a sugar high, anywhoo.

  14. I had a gigantic crush on Jack Wild back then - I'd have watched him brushing his teeth. He was also the Artful Dodger in Oliver...sigh

Besides, we only got 2 channels then - and the farm report was on the other one.

  16. They might not have been doing drugs, but being exposed to their show was the main reason I STARTED doing drugs.

  18. I HAD TOTALLY FORGOTTEN ABOUT SIGMUND! Wow. Thanks, Scope, for bringing that one back.

I also loved HR Puffnstuff but I could only watch it at my cousin's because she lived in town with cable access.

Anybody a fan of Fraggle Rock?

    I always clapped along.

  22. Gwen - I STILL clap along and get disappointed at my 5 year old for not liking Fraggle Rock. Dumb kid.
HOWEVER, my 2 year old loves Yo Gabba Gabba (http://yogabbagabba.com/) which is occasionally a little trippy and Krofft-ish kinda?
She is NOT a dumb kid.

  23. I totally had a crush on Jack Wild. Sigh.

For the commenter up there, it was the "Bugaloos". I know, because I had the lunch box. What's cooler than a band dressed like bees?

    Nothing,that's what.

(My word verification is "beehor". Was that really necessary Zibbs? Just because a girl likes bees...)
