The Devil Really Can Tap Dance. Lawrence Welk.

So I was on Gage's blog this morning and saw the most glorious video. If you're like me you won't believe your eyes. I know I've been playing a lot of Lawrence Welk videos over the last month (2) but this one takes the cake.

Check it out then read my thoughts below.

Do you believe what you just saw?? Go ahead. Take another look. Everything about this video is great. The way the devil sneaks out, then he goes into the running tap dance around 15 seconds in, the costume that is like a shorts/skirt hybrid. Just everything. Did you check out the set?

It's almost like you're waiting for someone to run on stage and yell, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING OUT HERE?" as if the person dancing is some madman that ran in from off the street. I just love this video.

  1. ..and one more thing. Why is he wearing what appear to be wooden shoes?

  2. Zibbs, thanks for posting this. You are right, EVERYTHING about this video is great.

So the fact that the devil is sneaking means that it's not HIS creepy library with overstuffed armchairs, jack-o-lanterns,and giant severed heads. No, whoever this library belongs to, they would be PISSED to catch ol' Satan hanging out in it, so to get his dancing done, he has to sneak in.

  4. JY - Good point. And why does the devil have to sneak anywhere? Maybe he should have done the international "Shhhh"* signal at the begining.

  5. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is Lawrence Welk's idea of Hell.

Can you imagine what this guy's dad thought when he saw this?

  8. well as you know I love LOVE LLOOVVEE this video... and in fact had decided in my mind to watch it once a week and re-post it on my blog every Halloween. And I will.

I'm also proud to be under 80 and in love with the Lawrence Welk show. We should start a club. But then of course, it might become hip or something... and that would be bad.

I thought a Lawrence Welk movie would be a good thing too... but then I thought do we really need a Will Ferrell interpretation? Because I think that's where it would go. I envision Don Cheadle playing this dancing devil character.

Did you know in some of the earlier episodes this Arthur Duncan guy wasn't really allowed to dance with the white girls, so he had to sort of look like he was just hanging in the background?

I might know a little too much about all of this...

  10. T-Ro - I'm sure his Dad said something along the lines of, "You've shamed our family"

Gage - I agree with keeping the club private. Maybe there has to be a really hard initiation and the members have to be sworn to secrecy.

  11. ...and Gage - look at my Feb 21st clip. He reminds me of Will Farrell in that clip!

  12. they fell down on one important aspect of the devil as popularized with this look: the black mustache/goatee... like my fifth grade teacher, Mr. Kennel had...

  13. Joe - They probably spent too much time on the tail.

When he first starts to run, it's almost like he just remembered that there's a tail there.
