What The Hell Does This Mean? Pop Up Stuff On TV.

Sometimes if I think of a post I'll write a quick reminder in Blogger so I'll remember to write it later. So a few days ago I wrote:

"Don't Just enjoy the show..enjoy the go..w bear running across the scene 2 seconds after guy falls off bridge on snf. VH1"

And today I was like...What the hell does that mean? Then I remembered. It was a reminder to write a post about the bottom of the screen teasers on TV that you see to remind you what shows are coming up. They're like mini commercials. They're called ad crawlers. I think some bears were running across the screen.

The movie I was watching was Saturday Night Fever and at the part where the drunk dude is on the bridge saying, "Tony, look at me...look at me Tony" he falls to his death. It's then that two cartoon bears go running across the screen as a reminder to watch some cartoon show that has bears on it.

Totally ruined the movie... even though I was just flipping and I've seen in the movie a bunch of times.

And I've read a few articles on the subject lately and they're not going to stop these ad crawlers. There's too much ad revenue to be had.

Do any of my European readers have this in their country yet?

  1. What made me laugh is the "what the hell does that mean" because I have several of those...and I title them? and then..poof! gone. No clue....
Totally not what your post was about so sorry 'bout that.

  2. Hate, hate, HATE those things!! I hate when it's for a sit-com and they just have a bunch of guys shoving each other, shrugging, then standing back to back, crossing their arms and smiling. Is this really supposed to entice me to watch your show?

Not surprised they're NOT going away, though! Sigh!

  3. But maybe..just maybe..if two cartoon bears HAD actually run across the screen the drunk dude would have been like, 'Tony! Tony! Two bears!' and been so curious that he got up to play with them and then DIDN'T die and this somehow changes the entire movie and next thing you know - BAM - hurricane in Mexico.

Yeah. Maybe the cartoon bears are a bad idea.

  4. Oh man, I burst out laughing at the thought of those bears running across that scene. Someone should make a movie with stuff like that on purpose.

side note: The girl in the red dress looks awful next to Travolta. She looks like she's wearing curtains....from a discount seafood restaurant.....or a strip club....I'm not sure.

the WORST is when it comes on during a part where there is writing like subtitles on the bottom of the screen....

  10. I can't be sure, but I think those bears probably had something to do with the guy falling to his death. Just sayin'.

  11. Ugh those things are totally annoying and distracting. I don't like them at all. You know what else I hate? How TV stations keep their logo up all the time and sometimes It covers up part of the picture or if there are words at the bottom you can't read all of them. Drives me crazy!

  12. Totally agree with Diane here ; what was she thinking ..?? By the way she holds her body, she looks more like a stalker and in just 3 seconds a bouncer will lift her up and remove her from the dancefloor and club.
You can hear her scream in the background ; I'm a better dancer than Olivia, I'm better, BETTER !!!
