*big ole' sigh*
That's her when she was little. (Sorry for the crappy quality. I took a picture of a picture.)
I remember when my kids were born. The one thing that people told me is that the time just flies by. And it's so true. So enjoy it. Life is short people.
And now she's a beautiful young lady. I'm finding that girls are harder to raise than boys. I think because I have a harder time getting on my daughter's case. With my son I'd be like, "What the hell were you thinking!" But I just can't bring myself to raising my voice with my daughter.
And the dating thing? Oh my God. It hasn't started yet but I'm dreading it. She's so beautiful and I'm just waiting for her to tell me that an 11th grader asked her on a date. Oh God. I can't even think about it.
beware my friend!!! My baby girl will be 16 before the month is out! Girls are much much much harder than boys. The lad (he is 21) was easy, problems with other boys he'd either ignore them, wack them or become a best buddy - fixed in time for tea! Girls it goes on and on and on and on!
ReplyDeleteDating - good luck!!! Her latest knobhead... sorry young beau (to be fair he is actually quiet a nice lad in general) has gone and joined the flipping army and is running around the northern hills with twigs stuck in his hat! All tears and love letters etc. He is away for 6 to 10 weeks at a time and once he turns 17 next year they start pushing him out of aeroplanes! Mad! (I am assured they give him a parachute :-))
You have my sympathy and my greatest admiration that you are willing to see it through! :-)
You've got nothing to worry about on the dating angle, that light shining out of her leg is scary as hell.
ReplyDeleteFurtheron - Thanks. I think it'll get easier before it gets harder.
ReplyDeleteDiane - HA!
I'm already practising my scowl ready for boyfriends and my daughter's not even two yet. It's a father's perogative.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your little girl!
Awww - love the picture! Happy Birthday to her!!
ReplyDeleteThe Jules - I know. I look back and think of going to girl's houses to pick them up and can't believe that the Dads were friendly.
ReplyDeleteI may have to buy a gun just so I can clean it in view when guys come to pick her up.
Sybil - I know! Me too!
My (step) daughter turned 15 last Friday. I'm so glad she's not interested in dating, because I remember what I was like as a 15 year old boy.
ReplyDeleteAnd a gun is passé. Go with an axe. Be there honing a big ol' axe, and look the boy in the eye, and say, "Let me AXE you something... What time will you be bringing her home?"
girls ARE harder ! Puberty hits them so bad ; boys are slow(er) and more into computers and music and sports... India is 14 but she looks friggin' 16 ... on top of that she is very dominant and tough. I hope your little girl doesn't break your heart by bringing home some loser .. The crazy thing is ; as a parent you INSTANTLY know this dude is good or bad (like some 6th sense thing) for her. But you can't show to hard 'cause that causes the opposite effect.
ReplyDeleteOh well, I see some blogposts on guys asking your daughter out for a date coming up ..
take care !
*sigh*
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain. My baby just turned 15 too. I'm not worried about her dating yet though because she still thinks boys are stupid and would much rather stay home and read a book than go out anywhere with anyone. (YAY!)
What worries me is that I swear she just turned 11, which must mean that before I know it she will be 18 and then *POOF!* just like that, she'll be off to college, and I just can't imagine not having her around everyday.
*sniff*
Awwww! Happy birthday to her!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI was totally about to agree with you on the girls being harder, but then I realized it was for a different reason. Maybe it's a mother/daughter father/daughter difference because I'm always much harder on my daughter than on my son. But I STILL think girls are harder.
I was just telling my friend who has all boys and who had just said that she wouldn't know what to do with a teenage girl, "There's nothing you CAN do! You just 'hunker down' like they told us to do during Hurricane Ike!"
I have 3 daughters 22, 20 and 16.
ReplyDeleteMy dad used to say the difference between raising boys and girls is that with boys you only have to worry about one little prick with girls you have to worry about all the little pricks...curd, but funny.
I agree they grow up toooo fast.
Tracey - HAHA!
