Most Delicious and Stinky Kitchen Smells Declared By Chester County Man.

What do you think the most delicious and stinky kitchen smells are? Foodwise that is. Mine are....

Delicious: Shallots and garlic cooking in a pan that is being deglazed by white wine. Oh my God. Heavenly. I love the little shallot. And garlic? Couldn't live without it. And deglazing a pan is probably my favorite kitchen task. Next to eating the food. Awwww yeah...up high *looks around for someone to high five*

Stinkiest: And now on to the stinkiest. I guess for me it has to be sour milk. Except it's rare that I smell it because the day it hits the expiration date it's down the sink with you. You stinky bastard. But on that rare occasion that I've dumped it and lumps come out?....Uhhhggg! Makes me ill!

  1. I use shallots in so many recipes that either call for garlic or onions or both. I love me some shallots.

  2. Earl - I was introduced to shallots when I worked at a French restaurant in high school. My family never had them. I use them all the time.

  3. I just cooked some garlic and caramelized onions in olive oil (served over noodles with parmesan cheese) for dinner tonight. My husband and his friend walked in later and asked what the yummy smell was. Maybe I should use shallots next time!

  4. First off--you CLEANED a French restaurant--you didn't "work" there. Now I feel better. Got to agree with you--nothng better than garlic and onions in a pan. Worst smell--beets roasting in the oven. Lingers for days- Also, Mrs. CrotchPains recently left the kitchen with wheat bread in the toaster oven. The smell of burnt toast and the resulting fire in the oven stunk for about a week.

  5. High five on both counts!

The carnivore in me would like to add the smell of ground beef sauteing in the pan, along with the shallots, onions and garlic, of course.

  6. Crotch - YOU sir are wrong. I was a dishwasher at the French restaurant. A 10th grade dishwasher is a very important part of any French restaurant as you may know.

    Kate - Of course.

  7. Fresh coffee brewing or freshly baked bread is my favourite smell in the kitchen. (even though I don't drink coffee)

My worst smell would be the cooking of pork.
