West Chester Prepares For Scrapple Rally This Weekend

When the THAT BLUE YAK hotline rung a few minutes ago I sensed urgency. My senses were spot on. It was no other than WCDish.com's Mary Bigham asking that I help spread the word of a very important rally happening on the Courthouse steps in West Chester tomorrow morning.

This important event is a rally to support delicious scrapple. You read that correctly. Scrapple. The savory mush of pork scraps and trimmings that are combined with cornmeal and flour is an underdog and it needs your help.

So come out tomorrow morning on the corners of Market Street and High Street in West Chester and do your part. No time to make a sign? No problem. Poster board and markers will be available*.

This important event will happen tomorrow, October 18 from 9AM - 10AM.

*And don't even think you're going to use the materials to make a sign about apples, beets or one of the unimportant foods. These supplies are for scrapple signs only.

  1. OMG I LOVE SNAPP... oh wait. Scrapple. Scrapple? WTF is scrapple? Never mind. You had me excited for a second there.

  2. I had no idea that scrapple had encountered such hard times. Frankly, I think we should let nature take its course and allow scrapple to fade away.

  3. I used to spend summers with my cousin at her farm. They made scrapple and always made me try it. I'm gagging right now with that memory. We would steal camel non-filter cigarettes from her dad's feed store, and smoke the whole damn pack. That horrible feeling in my stomach after THAT felt better than eating the scrapple.

  4. Makes sense why Aunt Jane is in town, she must be heading up the Scrapple Parade. What until Wally Weiner finds out that scrapple is invading his corner.

  5. From where I sit as I read this post, I can look into the living room, where 12, my step-daughter, is watching "Pet Star" on tv. I saw the photo of scrapple and had to look away. Naturally, I looked up at the tv to see what was going on, and the image onscreen was a . . . .

    wait for it

  7. Um, Dude, that's just gross. Unless you put it under gravy and serve it with garlic roasted mashed potatoes. It's like SPAM, and who knows or cares where it came from?

  8. We love playing Scrapple. It's a game where you place lettered tiles fashioned out of pieces of rancid meat onto a game board spelling a word. You get triple word score if you EAT your words.

    What would Nana Zibbs say?!

  11. Once I went to the DK Diner while my car was being worked on across the street. There's a waitress there who reminded me of Flo from Alice who told me the whole scrapple story then made me try it. My kids refused. Dare I say I've not tried it since. It was disgusting.
