I Need Help Naming This Garden Creature in My West Chester Garden.

Posted by Picasa

What the hell is this goofy ass bird? It's just a wooden sculpture that adds a little whimsy to my famous THE THAT BLUE YAK GARDEN OF HOPE - that's all. My famous West Chester, PA garden that is.

The problem is you see - it doesn't have a name. Would you like to name it? Leave your name suggestion in the comments section. I will then refer to the creature as your name. If you win that it.

And feel free to come up with a back story/legend or the use that this creature performs in my garden.

Now get to work.

  1. It reminds me of those bird things from Marvin the Martian cartoons. But since I cannot find what they are called (really, I didn't look that hard) I say we just call it, Ralph.

  3. This is the flamingo that was so envious of Vic paying attention to the other's, not him, that he chopped his own head off. Then Vic tossed the head into your garden to get rid of the evidence. Let's call him Bandoth, which is my word ver.

  6. It reminds me of one of those Skekziese...I totally made up that crazy spelling cause it seems kind of Hanson-esque. The Skekziese were those crazy scary creatures from the Dark Crystal...now I have to go and find a freaking link because you probably won't know what I'm talking about. !

  7. Hank...I had a long necked big nosed uncle named Hank...he liked to hang out in the garden but only so he could drink and smoke weed (which coincidently also grew in his garden) without the constant nagging from my aunt Pru.

It was often opined that his long neck came about because her large hands were constantly around it choking the life out of him...he died young...she got so mad she died soon there after...they are laying next to each other in the cemetary...and so now hes probably green...or..something...ok now Im rambling...anyhow...

  8. And note from my sidebar that Cameron Via Twitter from Baltimore Airport would like to name him Peckerwood.

  11. Definately a green Flamingo..

Perhaps someone thought green would be less tacky than the pink plastic treasures that adorn so many gardens (ahem, including mine). I think "Pip" is an appropriate name. My Love Bird said he will share his name for a worthy cause.

  12. Cecil the Swamp Flamingo was abandoned by his flock.

You see, apart from the obvious lack of a body and limbs - which made it very hard for him to migrate - Cecil has a rare form of color-blindness which causes him not to SEE red as green, but to TURN red to green, including his own flamingo pink to a swampy green color. The rest of the flock ditched him in West Chester, PA to avoid sharing his fate... and horrible coloring.

Cecil spent his days alone, wandering slowly, scratching in the dirt with his beak and dragging his wiggly neck behind him, until he happened upon the magical kingdom of Zibbs, where he now proudly stands watch over the famous THE THAT BLUE YAK GARDEN OF HOPE.

  15. *studies the picture, long & hard*

I'm going with Soda & Candy - Cecil. Great story!

    Peckerwood was a close second.

Thanks for letting me help judge the stories/names, Zibbs. :)

P.S. You still didn't click the button!

    Todd?

    Kindling?

  18. I dunno, Zibbs ~ a beheaded bird? Maybe you should call her Marie Antoinette.

  19. His name is Orville. If you look really close...isn't his eyes made from popcorn? Or it could be Orville Reddennbocker's ghost has inhabited your garden ornament. He will sneak in your house in the middle of the night and sink his beak into your juggler. Yeah...Orville is a good name.

  20. Phill I'll put Orville into the big bucket of considerations.

  21. And the winner of the naming contest is....

    PECKERWOOD. By Cameron.

And the legend goes to Soda and Candy.

Congratulations. You win nothing except bragging rights.

  22. Yay, bragging rights.

That's cool, I knew the legend was better than the name. Are you sure you won't be getting some kind of plaque engraved with his legend though? Like a historical marker?

  23. Soda and Candy - how about I print it out and staple it to a piece of wood?
