What Are The Best Food Brands? Chips. Baked Beans. Burgers.

When I mentioned Baby Rays BBQ sauce in a post last week I got a great reaction. And some suggestions on some other BBQ sauces which I'll be trying.

So I'd like to get a list of some other brands that people love. I'd love to try some of them out.

Here are some that I like:

Baked Beans: Bush's
Frozen Dinners (when necessary) - Stouffer's red box (mac and cheese).
Toilet Paper: Scott's
Potato Chips: Wise (regular). Herr's brand Kettle Chips.
Scotch: Dewars.
Processed Pie (single portion): Tastycake Cherry Pie.
Cake snack: Peanut Butter Tastykakes (nuke for 15 seconds)
Frozen Burger Patties (when I'm not making my own): Sam's Club burgers.

I know I'm going to think of many more but I'm in a rush and that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Stewed Tomato and Cheesy Shrimp ala' Zibbs Recipe.

Posted by Picasa

Here's a cheesy dish I'll dub Stewed Tomato and Shrimp ala' Zibbs. Here's how to make it.
(serves 4 or one big fat guy)

Ingredients
4 onions
3 cans stewed tomato
Mushrooms
salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne pepper
1 lb. shrimp
Chicken stock
Olive oil
Cheese. I used velveeta because it's all I had on hand.

Instructions

- Heat skillet to medium high and add olive oil. Season shrimp then cook shrimp for about 1 minute per side. Remove from pan.
- Heat onions until translucent then lower heat to medium and add garlic.
- Add stewed tomatoes, mushrooms and about half cup of stock.
- Lower heat to simmer and cook for about 20 minutes or until shrimp is cooked.
- Add some of the velveeta and stir until nice and smooth. Cheese also thickens the dish so you may need to add a bit more stock if needed.

Velveeta is actually pretty good in this dish but don't use too much. I really only use velveeta as a back up cheese so use any cheese that melts well.

You can then serve this over pasta or rice. I also like to drip Tabasco over it.

Enjoy.

The Schmitter. McNally's Chestnut Hill PA Sandwich. Not Bad.

So last week I was in Chestnut Hill (PA) with some people and we ate at McNally's. There's a famous sandwich there called The Schmitter. It's actually a trademarked sandwich.

The ingredients are cheese, special sauce, grilled salami, more cheese. tomato, fried onion, steak and more cheese. The roll is a Kaiser.

To tell you the truth, it was pretty good but nothing to warrant a trademark and all the hype. Great roll. Cheese was like Velveeta.

I'm sure you're asking, "What are some of Dr Zibbs's favorite sandwiches?" Here are a few regional favorites:

- Italian Style Roast Pork (from DiNics at Reading Terminal in Philly). Long hots, sharp provolone and horseradish on top. This is my favorite sandwich on earth.

- Hand Carved Hot Roast Beef Sandwich on Kaiser. Provolone and and horseradish on top.

- Pulled Pork. Cole slaw on top. Various locations.

- Hot Pastrami Sandwich . Mmmm.

- Corn Beef Special - I've only had great ones in NYC.

I've invented a few of my own sandwiches but they're really just variations on regular sandwiches. I really should add that to one of my life goals after that cure for Lupus thing that I opened my big trap about.

So what other sandwiches should I add to my must try list?

Don Gabriels. Carnitas. West Chester. Mexican Food.

Posted by Picasa

Do you know what that is above? You're looking at carnitas * - pork tacos - from Don Gabriels in West Chester. As you can see from that copy of the Daily Local News sitting there, this picture was taken back in the September when the West Chester, PA bomber was on the loose. And I wrote my amazing posts about the story.

OK, back to the carnitas. Have you ever eaten something that is so good that you order the same thing over and over at the same place because you're afraid if you order something different you might make a bad decision? And then you'll regret it?

That's how it is with these carnitas. It's shredded pork, with some onion and cilantro all packed into a handmade tortilla. And they have a killer red sauce that I dump over it. And a squeeze of lime.

I swear I've been there a dozen times in the last few months. Sometimes simple food is the best. I hereby give these Pork Carnitas the THAT BLUE YAK SEAL OF TASTYNESS. Si'.

*Note that the one on the far right is the pork carnita. The other two are BBQ pork carnitas.

Brother's Pizza In West Chester - One of The Best for Slices

I would like to thank my good friend/neighbor John Jones for suggesting the Buffalo chicken pizza that we ordered from Brother's Pizza a few weeks ago while shooting darts. I would have never guessed that pieces of spicy chicken on pizza would taste so great! I hereby name Brother's Pizza as being That Blue Yak restaurant approved. Let me just tell you that it's pretty hard to find great pizza in Chester County. This place does pizza right.

For those of you flying in to try it, Brother's Pizza is located in the Bradford Plaza on Downingtown Pike. You know, in the shopping center with Avante' Spa and the Giant. You'll have to get directions from the Philly airport to West Chester on your own. What am I?.. Google maps?
