Sauerkraut And Music To Cook To. Saint Patty's Day. Recipe.

Since I'll be celebrating my Irish heritage all week because of Saint Patty's Day, I embraced my German background by eating German last night. The meal was pork, mashed potatoes and Sauerkraut. And applesauce.

And when I cook, sometimes I like to play the music of the region for which I'm cooking. Here are some standards I'll play from my Ipod:

German Food: Traditional German Music (I forget the name of the album but there's a lot of Polka).

Italian: The Essential Dean Martin.

Cajun: Buckwheat Zydeco

BBQ: Jimmy Buffet, Beach Boys, Springsteen. Usually just at the beginning of Spring when it's starting to get nice out because it reminds me of the shore.

And just writing this reminds me that I really need to start cooking more. I guess I've been in kind of a funk and haven't been cooking much lately but I really need to get back to it. Anyone have any great recipes they think I should cook?

I've been wanting to make the ultimate mac and cheese for a while. Anyone have the ultimate recipe? I'm also looking for a few good fish recipes. One of my favorite simple standard salmon dishes is this:

Salmon Ala' Dr Zibbs

- Rinse salmon and rub with olive oil. Add salt and pepper.
- Rub dijon mustard on top of salmon.
- Sprinkle brown sugar on top of salmon.
- Grill on cedar plank (soak the plank first in water)

Enjoy!

99 Luft Balloons? 99 Luftballons? Bald And Fat And Old.

So a friend of mine is having a party tonight that's a mini college reunion of sorts. There are going to be some people I haven't seen in years. I'm looking forward to it. I'll be sure to point out to everyone that I haven't ballooned up and I have zero traces of baldness. Then when everyone gets uncomfortable, I'll say, "Oh I didn't mean you" while I shake my relatively thin ass and full head of hair over to the food. Just to be a dick.

I might have to tell the few friends that know about my blog to "keeeeeep cooooool"and keep their traps shut about my blog. I have a list of college stories I'll be posting soon and there are a few that I really don't want some people reading. Not that some of the people the stories are about will be at this party but you know how blabbermouths can be.

And there's one story in particular about an ultimate practical joke I did. If the person ever found out they may want to track me down for revenge.

And on the subject of balloons and college, here's a song that was popular at the time. 99 Luft Balloons by the hairy pitted Nena. One thing about the 80's and early videos - they were craptacular.

It's An Octoberfest Polka PA German Fall Weekend

There's nothing I like better than German stuff, music and hot chicks. Well this video has all of those things. The name of the group is Atomik Harmonik. They're actually from Slovenia, but I'm sure they wish they were from Germany. And as regular readers know, I usually like to start the weekend off with a song, and this Polka Pop my friends - is catchy. You'll see.

My regular readers also know that I love festivals. And there's a great one happening around here on Sunday. It's the Saint Peters Village Octoberfest. I went last year and I'll probably be going again to enjoy some brats, German music and some beer. And if I see any bloggers there, I will kindly introduce myself, just as I did to some very lucky fellow bloggers I spotted at the West Chester Chili Fest. I'm sure they're both still talking about that fateful day. Seriously. Can you imagine how exciting that would be? It gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. And I'm ME!

P.S. Write yourself a little note on a post-it to remind yourself to stop back this weekend or you'll be missing out on the fun that's planned. Also, I didn't forget about the links for the contests so don't even try it. I'll be writing that post soon.
