Chester County Pizza. Not Much To Offer. Exton. West Chester.

I'll tell you one thing. If you live in New York you're lucky because you can't get great pizza here in Chester County, PA. It's amazing that a food that requires so few ingredients and a very simple cooking process results in so many different things.

I've read that the water is the key to why New York has the best pizza but I've heard that the oven that it's cooked in is also crucial. Here are my picks for a few of the "pretty good" slices that you can get in Chester County. The first is from Rocco's in Exton. Pretty good thin crust. Gemme dat!

Next up is Marzano's Pizza in Exton (Next to the Duncan Donuts on Route 30). Kind of a light and airy crust but great sauce! Philly mag mentioned it as one of the best in the area.

And lastly the good old Las Vegas Pizza. This place has been around for at least 35 years. I used to go there in high school. Not toooooo shabby thin crust*.

So what's your favorite pizza?

*One time in high school I took this chick to the Exton Drive-In. Then on the way home she was like, "Let's stop at Las Vegas Pizza!" I stopped but was kind of embarrassed because she was super loud and annoying. When I walked in I was thinking, "I hope nobody I know is here." And Phew!! Luckily the coast was clear.

Man, you're the second person to post pizza pics today. Guess I know what we're having for dinner!

Sybil - And I'm sure there's not a lot of pizza out in your neck of the woods.

Oddly enough the best pizza I've found over the last decade has been, of all things, mall pizza. Something I typically only consider in desperation, and that's certainly how I discovered it. And then I'd drive out of my way for it. And then they closed. Just recently. And there's a sign in front of the boarded up kiosk excitedly informing us that a pizza franchise is moving in in it's place. And dammit, I'm not ashamed to cry.

Tatty - The only thing worse than mall pizza is the pizza at Chucky Cheese. Worse than Ellio's.

Marco's Pizza, Lansford. The parents came over from Italy. Great pizza, and they have Peroni beer.

Oooooh Diane I haven't had a refreshing Peroni in ages. Need to have one now.

Geez, you are all over the place. And my vote is Roccos.

I am starving. I think I need to make some pizza for dinner. Homemade is the best in my opinion.

Gino's East for sausage.
Edwardo's for spinach.

We're talking real, God fearin' pizza here, right? Chicago style deep dish. Not that flimsy stuff.

And what you said about the water is true. I was watching a show once about a guy from NY who wanted to open a pizzeria in LA, but couldn't get the crust to work. So, he paid for a chemical analysis of the NYC tap water, and then paid to have a water processing plant put in his store to replicate the mineral content, and the crust became right.

Radioactive - oooh make me some!

Scope - I saw that!

Yum! I like almost ANY kind of pizza, good or bad! I like the fancy kind with feta and artichoke and whatever all. I like the crappy round school pizzas. I even like frozen pizza. YUM!!!!!!!

Dr Zibbs said...

Jill - even Ellio's???

Oh yeah, I like making homemade too. But I don't have one of those special kinds of ovens or anything. but I still like to make it. OH! And avocado pizza on the barbeque pit! And I even like Cici pizza!

Jill - I need to master the homemade kind. Only did it once.
