THIS IS SO GREAT! Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Kendra Morris.

What's your favorite Pink Floyd Album? Mine has always been "Wish You Were Here." Ahh. The days of sitting around the dorms late at night in my Freshman and Sophomore year. The room dark except for candles. Listening to that album with a friend or two. After...You know.

How many of you did this? Come on...lets see a show of hands.

And on that album one of my favorite songs is "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". It's about the crazy founding Pink Floyd member Syd Barrett in case you didn't know. He left the band because he went crazy. But then he actually came into the studio when they were recording the song but he was fat and had shaved his head so at first they had no idea who is was. (Here's the Wiki page if you want to read about it).

But before you read about it check this out. I was seeing a movie the other day and the trailer for the new Colin Farrell movie Dead Man Down cam on and there's a cover of Shine on You Crazy Diamond playing. And IT'S GREAT!!! Super eire! It's sung by a woman named Kendra Morris. Let me know what you think. I love it!

As of this past Fall, she still bartends at a joint in the East Village in NYC. Pretty cool.

Really Earl? That's pretty cool.

"The Wall" was the first CD I ever purchased.

The guy who lived across the hall from me my Freshman year claimed his room was haunted, and the ghost got very agitated when he played "The Dark Side Of The Moon".

And that's my Pink Floyd stories.

Scope did that douche claim the ghost liked REO Speed wagon? I hope someone beat his ass.

I enjoyed this cover, and I'm the biggest Floyd fan I know. I have tons of discs and vinyls, and I know everything about them, so it's saying something that a Floyd snob like me likes this version. It stays faithful to the original while putting its own stamp on it, and staying psychadelic.

But should it not be called SOYCD Part 1 because she doesn't do the last verse? That's being picky. Anyways, she looks and sounds pretty foxy. To youtube . . .

Km - agreed.

Hey Zibbs! I know the tale well. In fact, Syd used to live round the corner from where I worked in Cambridge, tho he was a bit of a recluse as you can imagine. Loved this new version! Thankee! Roth

Indigo yeah its a weird story huh?

Now depends on the day... today... yes it is probably that... by Monday... possibly Animals - which I know many Floyd fans will raise eyebrows at but I really think it brilliant.

BTW today i.e. 1st Feb in 1967 was the day the Floyd signed their record deal with EMI - and the rest as they say is history

Dr Zibbs said...

Furtheron not a huge fan of animals but there are a few songs on there I really like.

That song was overproduced, middle-of-the-road crap. I love every second of Pink Floyd's version, but this was dreadfully boring. She needs to stop ruining good songs >:(
