TBY Product Warning: The Egg Genie. Do NOT Buy This Product!

Do any of you wonder if you may be retarded? Open your cabinet. Did you purchase the Egg Genie?

You did?

Well, you better sit down because I've got something to tell you. Are you ready. You my friend are retarded.

You have to be. I saw the commercial yesterday and the Egg Genie* is the most useless kitchen gadget since the microwave bacon cooker. It claims to cook eggs perfectly. Do you know how I cook eggs perfectly? I use a timer.

I'd like to interview the people that watch this commercial then are convinced that they not only need this but that after a few months they'll actually still be using it.

And one more thing. Who the hell uses soft boiled eggs for Eggs Benedict? Retarded people you say? Case closed.

If you want to see the commercial and featuring the soft boiled Eggs Benedict click here.

*and could you imagine if you received the Egg Genie as a gift? I'd love to see the anticipation on the faces of the people that gave you the gift as they sit there in anticipation, thinking that you're going to open it and be all excited. And they're waiting to yell, "..and it's great for making soft boiled eggs for Eggs Benedict. It's right there on the side of the box!" Then they look around proudly see if anyone else at the party is looking at them and thinking, "Great. Let's pretend you're sick so we can leave. We're going to look like fools when our gift is opened and they see that we only gave them cash. Stupid, non-egg steaming cash".

..and back to the Eggs Benedict issue. Is someone that buys this product someone that has the ability to even make Hollandaise sauce for Eggs Benedict? Hmmm?

I want eggs benedict so bad right now. If only I had an egg genie.

They should make this a standard appliance in trailer homes.

Just as long as they don't come out with a Big Green Egg Genie, then I'm fine.

There's an "As Seen On TV" store in nearby Pigeon Forge. I'm dying to go walk around that place some time, just for entertainment purposes!

Chris - I've been to one. it's 90% junk.

I don't make enough eggs for this to be a worthwhile investment. And, yeah, I use a timer, too. But maybe for the Gosselins or the Duggars this might be a heaven sent product, just like their little angels.

That is such a disappointing product. When I first read the words "Egg Genie" I pictured something else entirely, and it was definitely wearing a gold turban.

...Note to self. Start working on Egg Genie Halloween costume for next year.

..wearing a gold terban.

I also have a sure fire to to not screw up eggs - it's to not cook them.

This is something my grandmother might purchase for us (not me due to the aforementioned distaste for the Egg in nearly all forms (except quiche - WEIRD right?).

Scope said...

Does it also have a handy attachment that will scramble an egg while it's still inside its shell?

SkylersDad said...

The only possible drawback I see is that it will only "cook up to 7 hard, medium, or soft eggs".

It won't do each egg differently at the same time. That is a deal breaker for me.

Dr Zibbs said...

SkylersDad - it is a bir weird that it can't do that given it's space age design.

I have an egg cooker, luckily it's from a reputable company ... Sunbeam. It was my grandmother's and she swore by it as far as making deviled eggs. I'll be using it once a year for that purpose. WEET!!!

But yeah ... really all one needs is a pot, some water, a timer, and a burner.

SweetPeaSurry - welcome to my blog.

This looks pretty useless. Sort of like the "quesadilla maker" I got last year for Christmas. I already had one. It's called a frying pan, and it goes in the dishwasher (unlike the electric plug-in quesadilla maker, which would quickly be coated in cheese and grease and would be impossible to clean!) Who comes up with this crap?

..
I'm proud to say I never bought anything like an Egg Genie EVER !!
I'm an oldskool egg cooker and they are always perfect !

Dominica - I agree. If you don't use it, toss. I only wish I could bring myself to do that.

Interesting story you got here. I'd like to read something more concerning that topic. Thank you for sharing that info.

Have you tried it? I bought this yesterday, and I used it today to make poached eggs and (what I really wanted it for) hard-boiled eggs. It works fine for my needs.

Sure, the ads are hokey, but if you're pronouncing judgment on something without having used it, maybe you need to revise your definition of "retarded."

Thank you, Jimbo!
I saw it at a store and realized it was just what I needed. I live alone and get my eggs from my 2 hens in the yard so I never have a dozen around wondering what to do with them.

Sometimes I just want one egg. The Egg Genie allows me to hard boil, one egg. In minutes. No boiling a while pot of water and heating up the kitchen in the middle of summer. And it/they always comes out perfect. Not to mention saving energy--uses a lot less power than the stove does to do the same job plus it doesn't require the ac to cool the kitchen back down when you're done. I love my Egg Genie!! And heck yea I'd give it as a gift!! But first I'd hint around to make sure the giftee likes hard boiled eggs as regular food. I'd do the same thing with a popcorn popper.

Two thumbs up. Some of us are lonely onlies.

Well I'm a fitness gal and I eat up to 5 eggs in the a.m. (whites) this is a gadget I would use all the time so I'm buying it!

Do you ever sit around checking your cupboards for clues to see if you might be retarded?

You do?

Then save some time and check That Blue Yak. Because if you are visiting this website, or checking your cupboards for clues, you ARE quite likely retarded!

Yes, I know how to boil eggs. I raise chickens, so my eggs are FRESH .. Have you ever tried to peel a FRESH boiled egg? They do not peel easy, and usually look like a chicken peeled the egg for you! I have had several friends that have chickens say with the Egg Genie, you don't have that problem! So I am debating on getting one, unless someone here can tell me the secret to peeling fresh eggs!

Anonymous said...

I have a different brand of egg cooker, but I love it. The eggs practically peel themselves, which I don't understand, but it's true. And there also doesn't seem to be that sulphur odor that you get from doing them on the stove top
. I think Dr. Zibbs should try it before he knocks it.

Dr Zibbs said...

Haha. Nope. I'll knock it.
