I Hereby Endorse The French Onion Soup At Panera. 70's Food.

Oh yeah. Here's the French onion soup I had at Panera* the other day. And it was deeeeeeeeliiiiiiiiissshhhh!

I'm more of a fan with it in a crock and with the cheese bubbling over the sides but this version was really good. You don't see French onion soup too often do you? It was big in the 70's and 80's but I rarely see it on menus. I hope it's making a comeback.

And got me thinking about some other foods that were popular in restaurants growing up but are rarely seen. Like Beef Wellington (which I've never had) and chocolate mousse. Oh and another thing that I love that I still make. I little dish known as clams casino. I do them with cherry stone clams then add minced shallots, garlic, pepper and some bacon on top. That's the stuff. Haven't seen that on a menu in a while.

*The sandwich I got was not great. A turkey sandwich with bacon. The bread is just too thick. But I did have a few bites of what my date was eating. Potato soup and mac and cheese. Yum.

And on a side note they have a sign that say's "It's back! The lobster sandwich!"

Guess how much? $16.99! Too much!

Just telling it like it is said...

French Onion is next on my Panera "to do" list...Although I do prefer cheese bubbling all over the crock...

the Shrimp cocktail is definitely an oldie but a goodie as is the Lobster Thermidor.

$16.99 for a lobster sandwich? Maybe in the middle of the desert...

Trina - Get the small.

TC - Oh yeah. The shrimp with them hanging over the side with the sauce in the middle. And yeah $16.99 is a joke.

Did you launch an investigation as to where exactly the lobster sandwich went that it had to come back?

Crotch - I only conduct one Mike Wallace campaign at a time. See the Rino Wings post for update (RinoGate as it's been dubbed on Twitter)

I once made French Onion soup - it was delicious but took so long to make I never did it again.
Your date had potato soup AND mac n cheese?! Wow! Carbs are delicious, though!
Also, I cannot make a good potato soup for the life of me.

Dr Zibbs said...

Sybil why did it take so long? Seems like it wouldnt.

A date that let's you try some of her food? That's almost like KISSING!

On a slightly more adult line, there are some upscale "pubs" around here that do the crockery and the melted cheese on top. I usually get it 4 or so times a year. Love it.

And do people even drink Harvey Wallbangers any more?
