Run! Neely Went To Van Halen Last Night! 1980's. Concerts.

I

I used to go to a lot of concerts in high school

And even though I loved going to concerts I hated when other people went to concerts. Because dudes in high school can't shut their yappers and quit with the bore assing of the concert. Especially this dude we'll call Mike N. He might as well have walked around with a sandwich board announcing his excitement because he wouldn't shut his pie hole. Talking to everyone that would listen. Bonding with other people that would be going to the concert. It would go down like this:

Tour dates are announced: "Van F%#king Halen mother f#$ker! I. Am. There!"

Tickets purchased: 23rd row to VH! YEAH!! They're gonna rock so hard! No denying!  F%$k Journey! I'm all about Diamond Dave you bitch ass!!

Day before concert: Guess who's going to Van Halen tonight? ME! Whoa, whoa, whoa Jamie's cryin' WEEEMP WHEEEP! *drops to knees and does air guitar.*

Day after concert (proudly wears t-shirt above and struts down the hall): VanHalen rocked! You should have been there! But you weren't! I was though! Best concert ever*! THREE ENCORES! THREE! "Runnin' with the Devil" right into "Eruption" YEAAAHHHH!!! *devil hand motion*

Then in the hall and at lunch he would list every song that was played. Alright now I'm getting pissed all over again.

*It's ALWAYS the "best concert ever" isn't it?

Question About Springsteen Song Sandy. Spectrum. 1975.

I was listening to "Sandy" by Bruce Springsteen on my Ipod the other day. Man does he set a mood and paint a picture in this song! Here's a live version from 1975. I only saw him once in concert. At the Spectrum in Philly in probably 1980 or 1981. Probably in my top 5 favorite concerts ever.

Not sure why Bruce is wearing that big ass wool cap at a concert though.

Now I wish I was at the shore. Snuggling up with a lady fwend.

And what does he mean that "the cops finally arrested Madame Maria for telling fortunes better than they do?" Can anyone explain? I don't understand. Why did she get busted?

Enjoy:

Deadheads Vs Parrot Heads. Which Are More Annoying.

I'll start by saying that I've seen both the Grateful Dead (three times) and Jimmy Buffett (two times) and had a great time at the concerts. And I've always had fun in the parking lot. PAAARRR-TAAAYY!

With that said, both hardcore Dead Heads and Parrot Heads annoy the hell out of me. The whole "look at me! I'm embracing this and I'm a part of the scene!" just gives me a major rash.  And I hate self proclaimed Deadheads or Parrot Heads that have to let you know, "I'm a total parrot head. I've been to 21 shows. I know every song." I don't give a s*%t buddy. So who is more annoying and why? Show your work.

Also, bonus points if you can name any other band follower names. By the way followers of Clay Aiken are called "Clay Nation."

(Look at that dude above. Arrogant nerd!)

Incidents That Happened At Who Concerts. Part 1.

I used to go to a lot of concerts. But it seems like at a third of the concerts I went to there was an incident.

And by incident I mean either a fight, a potential fight, someone I'm with getting completely fucked up or some weird or funny thing.

Here's one of the things that happened at one of The Who concerts I went to:

*imagine me in as an old man in a rocking chair telling the tale*

Oh it was way back in the day. Sometime in the 80's.

So the concert was in Philly at JFK stadium. The place was torn down many years ago. So it's a heat wave, The Who is playing and we're on the "floor". The seating was folding chairs.

So everyone is standing on the folding chairs and I feel something spraying on my legs. I turn around and some drunk asshole is peeing on my chair and some of the spray was hitting my leg. With Hulk-like rage I just say, "What the fuck?"...

And I push him so hard that he's thrown back into a row of folding chairs.

He's lying on the ground. His dick is still out and he's peeing on himself.

The security were on him in 10 seconds and threw his ass out.

The end.

And here's a little Who in case you want to play it and pretend you were there.

Philly Spectrum Around 1980. The Kinks Apeman.

Here's a group I saw back in the day in Philly at the Spectrum. The Kinks. It was probably 1980 or 1981. This is the song Apeman.

At 28 seconds in they show the profile of a person in an Ape mask. At first I was all, "Is that a real person?" Then I realized it was a mask.

Longwood Gardens. Smells. Flowers in Chester County. Concerts.

Posted by Picasa

YO LADY! Get the hell out of my backyard!!! Just kidding. That image above is from Longwood Gardens in Southern Chester County. It's a world class garden in Chester County. The Duponts used to live there mind you.

Rich SOB's.

I was there the other week and thought I'd share the images with you.

And do you see what flowers in the front? Hyacinths. They're probably my favorite smell in the world. Whenever they're in bloom I cut them and put them in my car because I like the smell so much. I wonder if they make a perfume with that stench because I would totally start to make out with some chick if she wore that. Unless it was some old bat. Or a butterface chick....or....OK I'd be selective but you know what I mean.

What's your favorite smell? And don't say my pits.

And here's another picture:

Wow! It's a stage at Longwood Gardens. They've been having concerts there. How great would it be to see a concert in this paradise? Rufus Wainwright, Etta James and Boz Scaggs are all scheduled to be there soon. I like all three of them. Why don't you buy me a ticket and take me there? I'll totally do it.

Except you smuggle in the weed. I'm way too important for the big house unless I can be like the wiseguys on Goodfellas and be able to make my own food. And I would totally do the shaving garlic deal with the razor blade. You'll see.

And lastly, as a celebrity I was invited to attend an important event there in May. I'm still deciding whether to go. We'll see.

Cheap Trick. Philly Concerts. The Spectrum. Surrender Lyrics.

Cheap Trick was my first concert. I saw them in the Summer between 8th and 9th grade at the Spectrum in Philly with my buddy Flare. I still love the song Surrender.

I was thinking about Cheap Trick because they're touring with Def Leppard and Poison this Summer. I was never a fan of Def Leppard or Poison but since it's a three bill concert, each band will only be playing their greatest hits so it might be worth seeing.

Very interesting lyrics if I do say so myself. To watch the video, click here. But you might want to read the lyrics first in case you're not familiar with them. Or treat yourself and sing along!

Mother told me, yes, she told me I'd meet girls like you
She also told me, "Stay away, you'll never know what you'll catch"
Just the other day I heard a soldier falling off some Indonesian junk that's going round

Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright, they just seem a little weird
Surrender, surrender, but don't give yourself away

Father says, "Your mother's right, she's really up on things"
"Before we married, Mommy served in the WACS in the Philippines"
Now, I had heard the WACS recruited old maids for the war
But mommy isn't one of those, I've known her all these years

Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright, they just seem a little weird
Surrender, surrender, but don't give yourself away

Whatever happened to all this season's losers of the year?
Ev'ry time I got to thinking, where'd they disappear?
When I woke up, Mom and Dad are rolling on the couch
Rolling numbers, rock and rolling, got my Kiss records out

Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright, they just seem a little weird
Surrender, surrender, but don't give yourself away

P.S. I love how the drummer looks like an accountant.

J Geils Band - Centerfold Video

Here's a video of Centerfold from the J Geils Band from the album Freeze Frame. I saw them in concert at the Spectrum in Philly around 1980 or 1981 with my friend Flare. Excellent concert with one of rock's best frontmen Peter Wolf.
