Blogging Doesn't Take That Much Time You A-hole! Message to Jerk Non Bloggers.

I'm tired of non blogging people saying to me,

"You have a blog? Looks like you have a lot of time on your hands."

I'm so sick of that statement because here is my procedure:

1) I have lists of things to post. Half of the ideas I come up with while I'm driving or lying in bed. When I think of the idea - I write the subject down.

2) Then I sit and write the post. Most posts take from 2 minutes to 20 minutes to write. I'm not lying - I have the idea and I write it as fast as I'd write an email to a friend. You can probably tell by some of my errors. After the post is written, I look for a photo. I go to Google Images and it takes no more than 1 minutes. Ever.

3) If I have to add links, that sometimes takes a few more minutes especially if I have to get links from certain posts from blogs.

4) I also am always prepared for posting by having some Youtube videos saved as well as various pictures on my computer that I want to blog about. And I usually have a few half written posts set up in blogger so I'm ready to go.

Honestly, the most time consuming part of blogging for me is commenting on other's blogs. Do these non bloggers ever watch TV or play golf? Those things take time. What's the difference? At least I'm creating something that's making people laugh. And maybe saving lives. Stupid jerks!

So what's your procedure. And for all of my non blogging judgemental readers/friends - Kiss My Grits!

Oh yeah. And I do spend a little more time reading the comments and just gazing at the beauty of my blog. The shear beauty. Go ahead. really look at her.

Do you see it?

Oowww!! 'trembling'
Sounds like you are reeeally upset!
This person probably is losing all his time thinking about other's lives, envying and wishing he could be like them...
Anyway, you have to accept negative comments..to me,hunting, box or a job I may not like are a waste of time..but hey...we are not all the same!

My blogging procedure can take from 30 minutes to two hours-depending on the passion I feel about the subect.

I keep a list also so I am not usually at a loss for topics-but I am constantly re-editing-which is time consuming.

I would much rather "my peeps" didn't read and /or judge my blog.

I've had the same thing said about mine from a guy who works with my mother, "Looks like she's got too much time on her hands." Ah, what do you know about it you old goat? I spend as much time on it as I WANT to. And if you were trying to be funny, you're not. But I am!

Zibbs, when you come up with an authoritative response to the "too much time on your hands" comment, I wish you would share it. Like "meh", I think the "too much time" comment is a joy-killer, a nihilistic denial of joy and striving in life. It makes me want to punch the commenter in the face, immediately.

Me: "Hey, check it out! If I duct-tape these two things together, I can answer the telephone and make waffles simultaneously!"
Them: "Looks like someone has too m-"
Me: POW!

John Young said...

Crap, forgot to check the "send me the benefit of Zibbs' wisdom by email" box. Posting again, with that box checked!

Dr Zibbs said...

John - the old "telephone and waffle invention" analogy. Works perfectly in this situation.

I get up in the morning and write down whatever pops into my head. I save unusual pictures and add them or sometimes I search and find something to put on there...I'm not picky.
It takes me maybe 30 minutes.
(I'm sure you can tell by my high quality writing..LOL)

I don't keep lists or write stuff down the night before. I just "do it."

I like your blog. The variety is great and it's fun!

All I know is that you've saved my life! Yeah, I get the same thing. Agree that the most time-consuming thing is visiting other people's blogs, but I've decided to single-handedly increase the amount of happiness in the world by appreciating people on their blogs, so it's just something I have to live with. And I watch much less TV than the judgmental non-bloggers. No, I haven't seen 30 Rock!

I have a harder time with it than you do. I used to write a weekly newspaper column, and I started out wanting to put that kind of effort into my blog every single day. I scaled back, but I still spend too much time trying to get the sentences exactly as I want them. I also tend to lose my lists of ideas.

Maybe it will get easier after I've been doing it for more than a few months. You've given me some hope!

diane said...

My hero! The most time consuming part really is giving attention to other people's blogs. (I think I might be starting to crush on you a little now)

I tend to just write whatever and I don't worry about how long it takes.

I did have something similar happen, with that meme "25 Things..." Someone commented "People who have the time for these things make me very very angry. Especially parents."

So, I asked, "Why?"

Their answer: "Because I don't."

Not sure why that should make him angry at people who do post, other than jealousy. Odd.

It is sort of a hobby, like anything else, TV watching included. Just different. And creative!

I did a similar post a few months back about my blog process.

Guess what I called it?

My procedure is similar to yours, and it pisses me off too.

All valid points. Except that one. OK. They're all valid.

I agree with this post. I'm surprised at how many non bloggers make such a big deal out of having a blog. I will admit I am spending more time than I used to reading other people's blogs.

Dr Zibbs said...

Chaka as long as you keep reading the best blog which is....(holds head down shyly)..MINE.

diane said...

You're a man who stands by his word (or blog, whatever). Thanks for your comment. xo

I hate this kind of stuff. I get a lot of, "I don't get blogs." or "I don't do blogs." WTF? Then you clearly don't know enough to say anything so shut your hole, douchebag.

I love it when people who know nothing about a topic are self-righteous enough to judge and comment.

Cora said...

I just wing it. Whatever happens, happens. Very little planning. Sometimes it takes 5 minutes, sometimes it takes two hours. Whatever. I just like the creativity of it. I like that I can be a spaz and say whatever I want and generally someone out gets a little kick out of it. That's what blogging is for me.

But, no, my non-blogging family and friends do NOT get it at all. Except for my brother, none of them even want to stoop to reading my blog. And that's fine by me.

No joke, you actually DID save my life today. I was gonna kill myself, I started to load the gun, then I looked at my reader and saw that I had two Yak posts to read still. I thought to myself, "I might hate my eternal self forever if I don't know what Zibbsy said before I did the final crap in my pants. So I read the posts, then forgot to kill myself. Thank you Dr, add me to your list of people saved.

I only blog when my spirit guide tells me it's okay. Usually a couple times a week, when he lets me take a break from sitting cross-legged and chanting.

I couldn't agree more.
I've got my cellphone set up so that I blog from there. It takes me a couple of seconds to take the photo and a couple of minutes to text type and send the completed blog.

LegalMist said...

You tell 'em, Dr. Z!! For the few minutes a day you spend, you bring a lot of laughter to a lot of folks. And your commenters are always entertaining, too. Keep up the good work, and just shrug off the critics.

I keep lists, too, of topics I want to write about, but sometimes when I sit down at the computer I write about something else entirely -- something new that pops into my head. I tend to spend longer writing each of my posts (they tend to be longer and I probably edit more), but then I enjoy writing so I don't mind. I'd rather do that than watch tv most nights.

I agree the most time-consuming part of blogging is keeping up with all the great blogs I've found and finding time to read them and comment. But I enjoy it, so I don't consider it to be a waste of time at all.

HEAR, HEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
People say that sh*t to me all the time. Now I just don't tell them.
I watch less tv because I'm blogging. I still live a full life (it's the key to better subject matters for blogs but most importantly it's better for your social skills and life skills).
I think that being literate is better than spending an hour blanked out in front of a television screen.
I mean, come on. People play video games, they play sports, they scrapbook, they play instruments, they spend time overanalysing text messages from exes.
What is it about blogging that makes some non bloggers think we're losers with no lives?!
Wow, now you've really got me going.

My latest post (submitted at 2:49 am this morning) took me all of, hmm, 10 minutes. It's short and sweet so, *cough*shameless plug*cough* check it out.

I almost never have a plan. I get an idea in my head and I run with it (no pun intended). Sometimes I get carried away and write a long one but only because I have nothing else to do. I'm being constructive, not wasting time.

My blog is for me, first, and if someone else wants to read it or not read it, whatevs!

Having a few readers is nice, however, I'd hate it if someone felt that they were obligated to read my lame ramblings just because I read/comment on theirs!

I just blog because it's fun, plus it's a way for me to keep track of some of the stuff that's happened. If I was only half as funny and smart=asses as you Dr.Z and your readers, it'd be nice.

Blah biddy blah blah blog. :)

Caffeine Court said...

I get that shit from people too! And like you, my posts don't take long at all!! I keep it really shallow and mindless and it works like a charm.

Dr Zibbs said...

Kate - thanks for the compliment. Just because I have a lot of readers (looking out a window with tear) ...they forget I have feelings.

C Court - I hear you.

My posts take FOR-FREAK'N-EVER to write. For example, the 4 parter I'm wrapping up tomorrow. Each was started on the blackberry on the train, just to get the words basically out. Then when I get home, import to Word, add links, fix typos, etc. Then paste to blogger.

Then it's time to scan pictures, play with Photoshop to make each picture exact (like it matters) then paste them into blogger. Fight with the fucking editer until the layout is about right, and then schedule the damn thing for 6am, and forget to put a title on it.

Total time: 2 - 3 hours.

But it's all for you Zibbs. All for you.

Now to spend a few minutes clicking on things.

hahaaha exactly. that shit just comes natural but since non bloggers are idoits and it takes them time cause they have to reflect on what they have to say they'd never get it. cause they're SLOWWWW ... Some of us are gifted some of us are not.

I asked my cousin yesterday why I hadn't heard from her in almost 2 weeks. Her response, "I know you're always on your computer and you don't like to be bothered." Um, you could still call me once in a while. So that I don't have to call and wake your lazy ass up at 10:15am on a weekday! sheesh!

I spend too much time on the blogs. (And by blogs I mean internet porn).

Without reading any of the other comments, which I don't have time to read, because I have to catch up on your other posts...above...this is what I have to say:

"At least I'm creating something that's making people laugh."

Ha!
