Don Gabriels. Carnitas. West Chester. Mexican Food.

Posted by Picasa

Do you know what that is above? You're looking at carnitas * - pork tacos - from Don Gabriels in West Chester. As you can see from that copy of the Daily Local News sitting there, this picture was taken back in the September when the West Chester, PA bomber was on the loose. And I wrote my amazing posts about the story.

OK, back to the carnitas. Have you ever eaten something that is so good that you order the same thing over and over at the same place because you're afraid if you order something different you might make a bad decision? And then you'll regret it?

That's how it is with these carnitas. It's shredded pork, with some onion and cilantro all packed into a handmade tortilla. And they have a killer red sauce that I dump over it. And a squeeze of lime.

I swear I've been there a dozen times in the last few months. Sometimes simple food is the best. I hereby give these Pork Carnitas the THAT BLUE YAK SEAL OF TASTYNESS. Si'.

*Note that the one on the far right is the pork carnita. The other two are BBQ pork carnitas.

I gather by the old pic that you did not take the woman out for a Valentine's dinner last night. We are not amused (I love talking like the Queen).

Jarritos and an oil top tablecloth? Looks pretty autentico to me.

Looks pretty tasty!

Reminds me of when I was in MN and my uncle insisted we go to "the best Mexican restaurant". Being from L.A., we were sceptical.

The place turned out to be Chili's. When I asked if the beef tacos had shredded meat, the waiter asked, "What do you mean by 'shredded'?" The meat turned out to be hamburger.

YUM! Not.

I lived in L.A. for 10 years, but the best ever Huevos Rancheros...DeLeons...Saturday Mornings...can't get beyond them. I know they have other tasty lard based entrees AND carnitas, but...I operate out of fear that nothing else will be as good...as you said. Even Mexicans eat at DeLeons.

Where are these 5 Star Huevos Rancheros? Lincoln, Nebraska. Go figure.

I love carnitas! Wish I could try the secret red sauce!

I could make a meal with the chips and dip they give you before the food arrives.

We love La Hacienda...a.k.a. La Ha Once, the county went in and shut them down. They had illegal Mexicans working there....imagine that....

Anywhoooo, the town was in an uproar. Was closed a good 2 months. I tell ya, I was jonsing......

That looks yummy! My old standby is a meatball sandwich. I am afraid to order anything else . Though everyone in a while the sandwich is not so good and I keep craving it until I get a good one.

La Pena in Kennett Square sounds just as good. Everything is $6 and is authentic mexican.

Holy grumbling stomach, those looks fantastic! Lime and cilantro and sour cream and cheese and shredded pork.. yum.

We have a place up here in Maine we go to for brunch now and then, and we always order the Lobster Eggs Benedict. It's just THAT good, every time.

Mmmm, carnitas. One of the best things about living in LA is the abundant and great Mexican food. And apparently that place makes it real baja style, no cheese! Pork is love.

Kimmie - and of course I have you to thank for telling me about this place.

I made barbacoa the other day. No match.

Kimmie - I think it would be tough to make them better at home unless you're making homemade tortillas.
