Collectible Dollar Bill From Chester County May Be Headed for Smithsonian.

OK this is really weird. Last week, in another shameless attempt to promote my blog, I wrote,

Google this: THAT BLUE YAK

on three or four dollar bills. I mean...uh....I didn't do it because it's against the law - I saw someone else do it. Yeah that's what happened...

So anyways, my sister calls me this weekend and said her son (my nephew) received a tip at the Country Club he works at, saw the command to Google THAT BLUE YAK, saw the post I wrote about the Downingtown Farmer's Market and realized it was my blog because he's heard the story before.

What are the odds of that happening?

And to my nephew: STOP READING MY BLOG.

And to everyone else, let me know if you can write this phrase on a few bills this morning. Also, is it REALLY illegal to deface money? Has there ever been a case of someone being prosecuted? My one minute Google search is very unclear on this. Maybe one of my readers that has nothing important to do can find this out for me. (That's right, turn off The View and get to work!)

And if you do see a bill labeled this way, please do not try to sell it to the Smithsonian, or a collector or frame it. I'd really like to keep them in circulation as long as possible.

The authorities are watching you as we speak.

And frankly, they are a little disgusted with you.

Maybe my defense can be, "I was just trying bring smiles to the faces of people with cancer"

Dr Zibbs said...

...Oh yeah. A few of you have to pretend to have cancer.

Marketing + social experiment = interesting idea. Let us know how it turns out.

And yeah. I'll be keeping an eye out for that cash.
(Actually, I'm always looking for everyday, garden variety cash too, so... meh. Nothing's different.)

Great. Now I have those creepy doll faces from the "It's A Small World" Disney ride dancing in my head.

But it is... a small world... after all.

Are you cool at us Europeans pimping a Euro-bill with
a That Blue Yak reference to your blog ??

Interesting promotional concept . . . I think NASCAR will be on this one in no time. I expect to see Jeff Gordon's face on the "DUPONT CHEVROLET FIVE DOLLAR BILL" any day now.

I have seen a bunch of those "Where's George?" bills around and never heard of anyone going to federal prison for them, so obviously you should listen to my completely knowledgeable advice to keep doing what you're doing...

Plus, the feds wouldn't have any proof you were the one defacing those bills (oh, except for this very post...) I will promote your blog on a couple of bills, but only if you promise we can share a cell when we both get hauled into jail.

We're told we're not supposed to deface the Queen's face on our notes, but I think that's because it's real money rather than that monopoly stuff you use.

Mind you, it also explains why so much of our dosh is doodled all over, cos if someone says you can't, you totally will!

Haha, this is a great idea, i'll try to do it for ya!

Anyway... now that I know that is how to MARKET your blog... when I get one with your URL on it... I hope you don't mind that I scratch it off and put mine on instead???

Cameron - I have seen the Google Image search for THAT BLUE YAK and it always crack me up. It pretty much shows what my blog is. A weird, weird place.

Dominica - yes, please put that info on European money.

Shelle Blok - yes. I believe he is in awe of me. Which is perfectly natural.

This has to be a US bill thing. In three plus years I've never come across any euro bills with anything written on them. Maybe I should start?? Any ideas what I should write on them? ;)

Dr Zibbs said...

Blogging Mama Andrea - to be safe, start with

"GOOGLE THIS: THAT BLUE YAK"

Give it a try.

Girl Interrupted said...

Firstly ... hahaha @ Peggy! :P

Ok, secondly ... you need to start running NOW! Someone (me) informed the FBI and there are several of their agents staking out your property as we speak ...

Sorry about that x

Writing your website on a dollar bill. They didn't teach us that in Public Relations school. That's marketing genius.

Most of my work with money has involved trying to change the 10's to 100's.

Mandy_Fish said...

I want to copy you and write my own blog address on dollar bills.

Will this make it a higher offense if you turn others to a life of crime?

Shelle-BlokThoughts said...

Okay... your response to Andrea Blogging Mama was hilarious!!! Just had to give you props.

As long as I am let into your COOL club... I don't mind if you and Cameron are in "awe" of each other! :)

K--I'm out!

Dr Zibbs said...

Mandy - By the time they catch us there will be coed jails. We can start our own gang.

Shelle - Just sent you a private email concerning this matter just as your comment arrived.

Dr Zibbs said...

WendyB - that is not my work.

~E said...

Ooh.. I would but I don't carry any cash with me.

Maybe Ill just write that in the amount line of a few checks and try to pay some bills with them. Then when I go to jail, Ill be sure to say hi to Dr. Zibbs as the nightly news film me handcuffed getting into the cop car from the courtroom after my trial.

"Hi, Dr. Z!!! Google this: That blue yak, ya beetches!"

Dr Zibbs said...

E - if you take requests, can you mention me on your famous makeup blog? Or you could always write THAT BLUE YAK in lipstick on your face... don't know.

Gwen said...

Hahahaha! Outed by your own narcissism. That's rich.

Zibbs - I did actually. Can I get one of those mugs? I like those.

Dr Zibbs said...

Blogging Mama Andrea - sure - I think they cost 12 Blue Yaks.

Technically defacing coinage (which includes printed money) is a Federal offense investigated by the Secret Service, not the FBI.

Never heard of a prosecution that wasn't attached to conterfiting. Removing the ink from bills was a way to get the paper for counterfiting larger bills.

Found you on Real Live Lesbian.

Dr Zibbs said...

NTSC - thanks for the info. Your profile says you're in engineering but you look rather lawery. If I do go to trial I may ask you to defend me.

OK?
