The Creepy Film About Your Changing Body
Guys, I need you to go and check the oil in your car. I need to have a private word with my lady readers. ....are they gone? Good.
OK ladies, It's wonderful being a girl. But did you know that the uterus is no larger than the size of a pear? Or that the ovaries are no larger than walnuts? And that fallopian tubes are not an amusement ride? It's true. The problem is that when the movie you were shown in 5th grade was playing, you weren't listening. Were you?
I think we all need a refresher course*. And coming from an anonymous blogger that you've never met that claims to be a doctor, I think you can trust me when I say, "Please watch this creepy film about menstruation that was made in the 1960's to teach gals about their changing bodies." Then when a gal pal ask you if it's OK to wash your hair while menstruating, you'll feel confident about giving them the correct answer.
*Although this film says it's safe to bowl while menstruating, this film was made in the 1960's so bowl at your own risk.

I'm not gonna watch the movie because, after 15 years, I'm pretty sure I know how my period works. Thanks for lookin' out, though.
Hey Zibbsy, I don't like to be a narc, but the Karp boys are still skulking at the door listening in.
Gwen, you have my permission to tell them that if they see this film it will make them sterile.
I've mostly blocked it out, but I'm fairly sure this is the movie I had to watch, followed by a Q & A session with the school nurse and the handout of 'something to take home' in a plain brown wrapper. I still remember the boys coming in from kickball and looking at us with that 'and so it begins' expression on their faces, there now being Stuff We Knew That They Didn't About Our Ladyparts'.
I don't even want to know what 5th grade boys know these days; I have a feeling it would make me sad. And a little scared.
I feel asleep after the 3rd minute. They need someone like Michael Bay to produce films.
That would be so awesome!
There would be action, adventure, explosions, a car chase scene...That's totally like my cycle.
Strange, that film didn't mention anything about horseback riding on the beach and not feeling so fresh...
I am absolutely dying to watch this! You know, mostly because I didn't pay attention in fifth grade and more and more questions are starting to come up...
I can't play this at work for obvious reasons. But I almost spit my lunch out my nose when I got to the part about the fallopian tubes not being an amusement park ride.
Just out of curiousity, what exactly were you looking for on YouTube that made you stumble across this gem?
Fancy Shmancy - I'm a big fan of any type of training or school films so I probably searched, "health class film" or something like that. In fact, I get tons of hits about a mom walking in on his son while he's takin' care of business. See that gem here: http://thatblueyak.blogspot.com/2007/08/creepy-mom-catches-son-playing-with.htmltons of hits for
Whoops. Here's the correct link: http://thatblueyak.blogspot.com/2007/08/creepy-mom-catches-son-playing-with.html
OMG, I can't wait to go home, even more than usual!
I know I don't feel like bowling when I'm menstruating.
Check my oil? Is that what people call it now days?
I never bowl when menstruating. I stay in my menstrual hut.
There have been times I was sure my uterus was the size of a watermelon.
I love these old guidance films too! There's a bunch of them on the Internet Archive-although some people have posted them as YT clips.
Wait a minute. I've long known I could bowl while menstruating, but I didn't realize it was safe for boys when they were menstruating, too!
This blog is not only fun, but educational, too. Man. This really should be a subscription site.
When I taught fifth grade I got to teach all this crap to the kids. Actually, I LOVED IT. I was honest, open, and the kids cracked me up! (That's a whole other blog...) That video CRACKS ME UP.
Grant and J.Hi - Dats a good von.
menstruation is awesome...you must be jealous.
Zibbs -
I am a little concerned that you are doing searches on youtube for "It's wonderful being a girl". Something to share with the group?
Regardless, I loved the music on this video and got up to dance fully confident that it wouldn't interrupt my flow. Thank you Dr. Zibbs!!
Though I am not an anonymous celebrity, I feel I must tell you how informative this post has been. It's life changing. Never again will I feel uncertain because I am menstrating - well YOU know Libby, always teaching through example. Thanks Libby!
Bowling without drinking? Who does that?
